A Veglia Borletti Set of Eight Instruments

A full instrument restoration of a complete Veglia Borletti set, eight gauges in all, taken apart, recalibrated, refinished and returned as a matched set.

What Arrived

A complete Veglia Borletti set, eight instruments in all: the speedometer and tachometer, the Benzina fuel gauge, the mechanical Press. Olio oil pressure gauge, an Ampere gauge, Temperatura Olio and Temperatura Acqua, and the clock.

What Was Wrong, and What We Did

The speedometer was noisy and scraping. It came apart completely, was re-lubricated and recalibrated, and the entire trip odometer mechanism was replaced.

The tachometer was rebuilt, though it had arrived in better order than the speedometer. A new bushing, lubrication and recalibration were performed on this gauge.

The clock needed a quartz movement in place of the original. Worth knowing if you own one of these quartz-converted clocks: it is set by pushing and turning, not by pulling. We note it specifically, because pulling it is how they get damaged.

The five bimetal gauges, Temperatura Acqua, Benzina, the mechanical Press. Olio, Temperatura Olio and the Ampere gauge, are a different animal from a coil or a mechanical movement, and they take a different service. All five were calibrated back to reading correctly.

The Cosmetic Work

Every case stripped and zinced. All the inner rings stripped and painted black. Every pointer painted, and the speedometer and tachometer pointer hubs polished.

The dial faces were blasted, painted and re-screened. All the glass lenses were replaced.

New black plastic step rings were fabricated, since they are not available. The trip odometer reset cable was restored.

The original speedometer and tachometer bezels were repaired and re-chromed rather than replaced. New 60mm bezels were crimped onto the smaller gauges, and new rubber dash gaskets supplied throughout.

What Went Back

The complete set, calibrated, re-screened and finished throughout.
